Shamra's Week By Numbers*

1/2 bagel barfed up on the Dublin bus. Turns out I can't sit on top a doubledecker bus facing backwards.
1 Kiss from a German man
3 times using the word "pants" and was mistaken to be referring to my underwear. "Trousers"= pants, "Pants"= underwear
4 John Connolly novels ploughed through
8 people in History department who reacted with recognition, and predominately amusement upon meeting me for the first time
6 inch pole in which a very small African man in a leopard print leotard limboed under after setting it on fire in the middle of Grafton street.
7 falls down the narrow stairs going out of my bedroom in the morning
7 falls up the narrow stairs going into my bedroom in the evening
14 hours (app.) of day dreaming and seriously considering becoming a criminal psychologist
15 minutes walking in dark from bus stop, realizing I am much too chicken to ever become a criminal psychologist.
16 minutes of hell, being forced to salsa in front of the entire International Student Orientation group with a very hairy Latin man.
80 euros spent on a used bike, bought from world's creepiest man, known to me only as "The Dublin BikeMan"
100 ways I fantasized about killing the Dublin Bikeman with my now very broken, piece of crap used bike.

Note: School starts Tuesday (hurray!) I will soon have a Smart Phone (provided the National Irish Band doesn't sabotage me yet again) and Sam gets in tomorrow (whoooo!!)

*It may be possible to sing this to the "Twelve Days of Christmas" tune.

Irish Books, Yippee!

I am delighted by the new realm of literature before me, hitherto untapped: Irish books, by Irish authors. And I have already stumbled upon a gem- that has 16 books attached to it- score!

Having been cut off from Elliot Stabler and Oliva Bensen and the Special Victims Unit of the NYPD, it has been so great to re-enter the minds of sadistic serial killers and those who hunt them. 11 seasons of Law and Order is only the beginning- these books are excellent. The human psyche is such a deep and complex subject- and I realized I have really been developing an obsession. Hurrah for Irish books!

Cyclin'

I biked to my school. It took a long time. And I had to wear this:

Europeans know how to bike well. I do not. Old ladies passed me. Young people laughed at me. Cars honked at me. I am sore, particularly on the buttocks.

Also, I accidentally went the wrong way onto the motorway...
Also, I braked really hard and flipped over the handlebars in front of two policemen.

Trying to Blog Again...

Hi everyone. First off, don't get excited about me blogging or expect this to last the week. I'm going to try to update this blog more often than once every four months, really, really try! I have this new idea: one or two sentences about notable things in my day. Easy for me, easy to read, and maybe, just maybe I'll have success with this blogging thing.

So: I am currently in Ireland, living with a family about 20 minutes away from the University College of Dublin, where I am earning a MA in History. Here is basically out my window (no camera, so internet pic!) I live close to Dublin, so there is lots of city of the other side.
